National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA)

In order to address the immediate and urgent adaptation needs to the adverse effects of climate change, as a Least Developed Country (LDC) and Party to the UNFCCC, the Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ) with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF) through the UNDP, developed a National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA). The NAPA which was completed in 2007 identified agriculture and food security, water and energy, wildlife and forestry including health as the most vulnerable sectors of the Zambian economy to adverse effects of climate change. The NAPA also recommended intervention measures in terms of ten project profiles to adrees these threats.

So far one pilot project under the agriculture sector has secured funding from GEF while the other nine requires support. The CCFU will facilitate the development of these and other adaptation project profiles into bankable proejects that can attract funding for implementation.
