The Climate Change Facilitation Unit (CCFU) was established in April 2009 by the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Natural Resources, with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Norwegian Government. It is an extended arm of Government mandated to spearhead on-going activities on climate change in the country. Specifically, the CCFU is expected to facilitate the formulation of a National Climate Chnage Response Strategy. Other specific areas of work for the CCFU include awareness and advocacy, facilitating analytical works as well as strengthening Zambias participation in international Conferences among others. The CCFU is headed by a Technical Coordinator who is supported by three technical officers one in charge of natural resources, the other on land use and another one responsible for Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
